Not easy to achieve, consensus pits the views and interests of the many against the singular idea of the greater good. An idea, drawn out of consensus, if allowed to flourish, may very well enhance the human condition and promote the evolution of human society to a higher plane.

In a situation where consensus is desirable, the individual’s initial thoughts, opinions and actions may be diffuse, scattered, uninformed, even merely based on cultural background or tradition. But as consensus develops, order ascends over chaos, clarity displaces confusion and intellect overrides emotion. Somewhere near the middle ground, consensus prevails.
